Promoting Healthy Hearts

Heart health is so important because our heart is a vital organ that is responsible for pumping our blood so that it can circulate through our bodies, the heart is also said to be a muscular organ, what is even more interesting is our blood carries nutrients and oxygen throughout our bodies ensuring that every part is well taken care of. Our heart is also responsible for removing wastes and carbon dioxide.

When we neglect to take care of our heart our body will not function the way it is supposed to and if the problem is not handled immediately and with care, our bodies will begin to deteriorate. It is said that more than five hundred thousand people across the United States die every year from heart disease and more than twenty- six million are diagnosed with this problem

Heart disease

A build-up of plaque causes heart disease, when this happens the artery walls gets stiff which makes it difficult for blood to flow through the arteries, your organs, in turn, will not be able to get the nutrients and oxygen they need which spells trouble.

what are some of the things that contribute to heart disease?

1. Overweight

2. Smoking

3. Poor diet

Getting to the heart of the matter

So then let’s get to the heart of the matter and look at some ways to ensure that we have a healthy heart. Foods that promote healthy hearts

In order to maintain a healthy heart, it is good to get our heart rate up and the only way this can happen is to get involved in activities that are good for your heart such as.

2. Jogging.

3. Playing a sport.

4. Cycling.

5. Gardening.

6. Aerobics.

Smoking is a no-no and is so bad for your health,  I smoked also but gave that up many years ago. When we look at what smoking can do such as lung cancer and throat cancer this alone should cause us to run for our lives.

I have seen the effects of smoking and what it can and has done to persons, from having such a bad cough to having one of those devices placed in their throat so they can be able to at least try to speak. Take a look at all of those commercials that we see which warn against the dangers of smoking.

Some persons believe that it is hard to quit and it may be for some, but just think about what you are doing to your body not to mention the hurt and pain you’re putting your family through as they see you suffer and can’t really do anything about it except pray and hope seeking help from doctors.

There are medications you can take along with joining groups that can help and encourage you to stop as you are on the road to recovery. Just think how you will be cutting your life short when you could live a long and healthy life enjoying every day of it with your family and friends

I know what you are thinking but this cannot be stress enough, I hope I am right, anyway, a proper diet is so important. Many in society are facing health issues simply because they can’t say no or don’t seem to have the willpower to say no, it does not matter if it looks good or smells good that does not mean that it is good.

Someone once said, that “with our spoons and forks we dig our graves” well then the flip side of the coin is that with those same spoons and forks we can eat our way back to good health, all is not lost there is still hope, but we have to make a conscious decision and then follow through in our actions along with being disciplined.

Tips to follow

1. Please stay away from greasy foods.

2. Do not eat heavily during the late hours of the night. Anytime after 8:00 pm should be light meals. or I will put it this way as someone said, “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen, and dinner like a popper”. Breakfast should be the biggest meal followed by a late lunch and a lite dinner also If you feel the need to eat after 8:00 pm then eat fruit, have a salad or make some nice herbal tea. Here is a link to the benefits of herbal teas.

3. Make sure and get your daily amount of water. Follow the link, please. Your health and water.

4. Get your annual checkup from the doctor.

5. Try to stay stress-free, because when some persons are stressed they tend to overeat as a way to find comfort. But this only adds to the problem of becoming overweight. We all have our share of challenges in life, we live in a real-world where we face real issues, but like someone once said in spite that “don’t take life so serious”, life was met to be enjoyed. Find that happy place whether it be Getting only with God in pray like I do, going on nature walks, going beaching, or find some other fun activity, but take time out and smell the roses along with life’s journey. learn to laugh, play and smile, because as the old saying goes “life is short”. Please follow this link. How to relieve stress with spices.

The final word

I liken our hearts to a battery that is responsible for keeping our bodies going, therefore it is so important for us to do all that we can to keep our hearts healthy as long as possible, so let’s do our part to ensure that our battery (heart) does not run down by making it work a lot more easy by the choices we make.

  1. I enjoyed reading your website very much ,you have a good blend. Obviously done a great deal of research both practical and theory.
There might be another area you could mention ( I may not have found it, so accept apologies if you have) that is creating a garden for bees , as well as butterflies. Also a natural wild area.
I am from the UK and it`s funny to hear you say about `a green thumb`, as here I have grown up with the expression, `green fingers`! my mother had those, she would walk along and any neighbours overhanging shrubs, she would break off a small piece, stick it in a pot , nurse it like a baby, and invariably it would grow.
    my forte is roses.
You sound like a great gardener and should do well with this site.

  3. You have a lot of good information on this page that every one should read and heed. I love your “Final Word” and I try to live by that at this point in my life. The page is very well constructed and has a good flow all the way through. I am amazed at the amount of information that will be so easy to follow and be so helpful that you have here. I like the way you broke out the different areas of interest in the “Gardening for Health” area. Something that worked well for me was having a compost pile for use in fertilizing my gardens organically. This might be something you want to get into on your site, it is so beneficial for the garden and the environment I believe it is worthy of slot on your page. Thank you for your site.

    • Hello my friend, thanks a million for your help, I actually do have a post on creating a compost pile. Thanks again and wishing you the best of success.

  4. I love that you related gardening to overall health, specifically the heart. Not only is it an active activity that is so good for your heart, but the produce you can eat from it is amazingly healthy and tastes better than anything you end up buying in the grocery store. Another benefit of gardening id you are typically outside and in the sunshine taking in vitamin D which is also incredibly healthy for you. Thanks for some great info!

  5. I am always wanting to make sure that I am taking care of myself the best I can, and that includes keeping a healthy heart. So I am glad I found this post on promoting a healthy heart. It’s nice to find everything I need to know all in one place. I was surprised to read that I am really doing everything I need to do to stay healthy.

    • Hello My dare friend I just want to say thanks for your support of my website and if you like I would love to comment on your website just send me the link if that is ok with you. And It is so good to know that you are on the right track when it comes to healthy living, all the best to you.

  6. Thank you for writing this helpful article! I especially appreciate the list of heart-healthy foods you have shared. Most of these are on my regular shopping list, but I was missing a few. I’ll definitely add flax seeds and chick peas next time I get groceries. Also, this was a good remember to eat lighter in the evening–I sometimes get swept up in social eating and realize I am way too full late at night. I’ll keep this in mind next time I go to a restaurant. If I can make sure to eat a hearty meal at breakfast and lunch then I probably won’t even want to eat as much in at night.

  7. It has to boil down on what type of lifestyle and working environment that you are working that I think is the major issue in causing all these health issues. If you reside in Singapore, you will find that the working hours are rather long(10 hours), where most of the time they would work in a desktop and thereby depriving them the time to execise. What a pity. I think to keep one healthy, they can choose to work from home. When you free up your time for exercising and you are very particular about your food intake, this would allow a major improvement in one’s health.

    • Hello Hong Yunhai it is so good to meet you and this story that you are sharing with me is so amazing. I guess all that we can do is make the best of our lives and try to find ways to stay healthy and fit even though at times this may not be easy. All the best to you and have a good day.

  8. Hello Norman,
That was a very informative information about heart and lungs problem. My brother died when he was 24 years old because of inborn heart decease. Despite of having this sickness he managed to fight and survived for many years. I just don’t understand why most people who seems to have a normal healthy heart doesn’t care enough to make their life lives longer. I wish many people could read this article of yours it might help them to enlighten their mind and change their bad habit when it comes to eating and smoking. I really learn important things and I thank you for that.

    • Hello Cris Santos it is so good to meet you, I am so sorry to hear of your brothers death but it is good to know that you got to spend many years with him. And it is such a shame to see persons who have good health and still neglect to take care of themselves. Hopefully one day they will follow the laws of health. I am glad that I could help and thanks for sharing, all the best to you and have a good day.

  9. This is some good stuff! I had no idea that our hearts are like batteries! You seem to know a bunch regarding health and such. Are you a nutritionist by any chance? I def cannot stand smoking, my dad use to and I actually never touched a cigarette in my life. I also think cardiovascular exercise is on of the most important aspects for a clean heart as well! Keep up the good work!

    • Hello Arif Isam it is so good to meet you, we should do all that we can to make sure our hearts are healthy, I do a lot of research and reading about our bodies, our health and natural healing. Thanks for commenting, all the best to you, and have a good night.

  10. Great post, Norman! It really is important that we keep our hearts healthy, and I being a freerunner can tell you that diet and exercise really is important to keeping our “batteries” as you had said, juiced.

I find that if I train without having breakfast first then I tend to have less energy and honestly, for the most part, I usually skip breakfast because I wake up late, and eat a heavy dinner in the night because I go to bed late. however, after reading your post it sounds like I’m going to have to change my habits.

“Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and dinner like a popper,” I like that saying, never heard it until now but I’m sure I won’t forget it 😀

    • Hello Joeka it is so good meet you I am glad that I could help, just keep on following the laws of health and you will be fine. Thanks a million for commenting. All the best to you and have a good night.

  11. Hi Norman,

The heart is very much the most important organ in the body and it is VIP that we take good care of it. I see that you mentioned garlic, that is a natural statin that helps to lower cholesterol.

There are a number of herbs that are excellent for our hearts as they improve circulation and help to clear arteries.

    • Hello Derek and thanks for sharing, heart health is so important and we should do all that we can to maintain proper heart function. All the best to you my friend and have a good day.
