Are you crazy about nuts or are you nuts over nuts? Nuts are loved and widely used by so many cultures in so many ways, there are chocolate covered nuts, nut cake, ice cream covered nuts, nuts in salads and so many other recipes that include nuts.


It’s no wonder why we go nuts over nuts, nuts taste great and have so many benefits. Christmas time is wonderful because we get to spend time with families,  friends, watch classic Christmas movies, parties, exchange gifts, and all of that other good stuff, now I know you are wondering where am I going with all of this, we are supposed to be talking about nuts, Ok let me get to the point.

I said all of that to make this one simple statement, and that is where would Christmas be without NUTS? as a child growing up one of the fun things about Christmas was all the assorted nuts that grace our table, man I always had a ball eating them. With that said we will be looking at some other cool facts about nuts.

Fun facts about nuts

Ok, let’s have some fun as we go nuts over nuts.

1. It is said that almonds have a long storage life and can be refrigerated for up to 2 years.

2. It takes about 540 peanuts to make a 12-ounce jar of peanut butter.

3. It is believed that Americans spend about $800 million a year on peanut butter.

4. 40% of the almonds that is produced worldwide goes into chocolate products.

5. Nuts are said to be dried fruit.

6. Coconut is used in the artwork.

7. Coconut is used in foods, drinks, hair products, medications, furniture, lumber as a pot to hold orchids on trees, fuel, body moisturizer, etc…

8. Coconut is said to be the largest nut in the world.

9. There are said to be 1,300 species of coconut.

10. Coconuts were named by sixteen- century Portuguese sailors.

The list can go on with fun facts about nuts and coconuts, but we will stop here and look at the vitamin content of nuts.

Vitamin content of nuts

Trying to mention the different varieties name by name, give their fun facts, vitamin content and health facts are far beyond the scope of this article, so what we will do is just look at some general information that covers the nut family.

Nuts are not only great for their taste, but nuts are very beneficial because of their vitamin content. Here are the vitamin contents of nuts. Vitamin A, many Vitamin B group, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc, Copper, Potassium, Iron, Manganese, Magnesium, Calcium, Minerals, and also dietary fiber.

Health Benefits

1. Almonds help to build healthy bones.

2. Studies have shown that eating enough nuts can help with weight loss.

3. Eating nuts help to promote heart health.

4. A diet that contains nuts is believed to protect from Alzheimer’s.

5. Nuts help to lower blood pressure.

6. Nuts promote a healthy brain.

7. Studies have shown that eating nuts can lower cholesterol.

8. A diet in nuts may help stop plaques from developing in the arteries.

9. Brazil nuts have been known to help promote thyroid function.

10. Nuts are packed with antioxidants.

The final word

There are so many varieties of nuts that are so beneficial to our bodies, so let’s make them a part of our diet. Nuts are just great.

  1. I never knew there was so much useful in such tiny nuts. Thanks for the information. It would seem that there is a lot of nutrition in them. We should obviously include them in as many meals as possible. Perhaps that is why so many vegetarians include nuts in their daily diet.

  2. I have to say I do like to have nuts, especially after a hard day at work at my local bar with a cold beer 🙂

    I did not know about all the vitamin content they contain though I must admit, but I wanted to ask you something!

    I had a friend sometime ago that actually had an allergy to nuts. They made him very sick. What is it about nuts that can affect us this way?



    • Hello Chris it is so good to meet you and thanks for responding, the process by which some people are allergic to nuts is sort of long, so I will shorten it by saying that with some person that are allergic to nuts their body sees nuts as a foreign object . What happes next is that the body goes into a defense mode to get rid of these nust that are undigested.

      So the whole process of the allergic reaction simply means that, that’s bodies way of saying I don’t need nor do I agree with you so I will do what ever it takes to reject you. Hope this helps, all the best too you and have a good day.

    What a great article. I never knew nutty facts about nuts! Nuts are essential, in my opinion, to any balanced diet, but not the salted variety!

    The are very healthy due to their vitamin content. They can indeed help men to increase testosterone, thanks to the nutrients within them. And thus help older or middle aged men to regain their sex drive and help with erectile dysfunction.

  4. Very informative. Nice layout. I like the green background on your right column. My wife loves to grow herbs. We also use herbs on a limited basis for medicinal purposes. I love to garden also.   5. Such a cool article! I love nuts and we eat them a lot. I had no idea that there were so many peanuts in peanut butter and that Americans spent so much on peanut butter every year! Are there any health benefits to eating nuts vs nut butters? I’ll have to see if you have a page on coconuts too. I’m not used to seeing regular nuts and coconuts talked about at the same time. Both so good for you!

  7. I had no idea how beneficial nuts are! Wow! I knew they helped our health yet I had no idea they helped us in so my ways. My friends have talked about thyroid issues so I think I’ll find some Brazil nuts and be proactive about promoting my thyroid function. It also looks like a regular diet of nuts helps our arteries, too. So many wonderful benefits from nuts. Are there certain types of nuts that help with weight loss? I’ll be all about those types of nuts, too, as I lose weight! Do cashews have any benefits? Do pine nuts have any health benefits? I LOVE pine nuts! Clearly I need to introduce more nuts into my daily diet! ~ t

  8. Nuts are very healthy is a common fact, unfortunately which are cheap are not as healthy as those most expesive. Could you recommend the best option for not much money? This is always my main concern when I want to buy some nuts. I can say that there is a trend for coconut lately do you agree?

    • Hello it is so good to meet you, when it comes to health the reality is that in most case you will sometimes have to dig a little deeper, what you can do is compare prices. One supermarket may have walnuts at a higher price than aonther food store, so it is a matter of comparing prices or

  9. A very informative and educational post. Nuts certainly come with lots of health benefits and are very versatile. As your post states they are not just used for eating. I know nuts can be a great source of protein, but I also thought they had a high fat content, so I avoided eating too many. Is this the case?

    I have a question about nuts that can aid weight loss. Correct me if I am wrong but almonds are packed with calories, right? I remember counting the number of almonds I take every day since when you follow the South Beach diet, I know you cannot exceed to 14 pieces in a day, LOL.

    I am a fitness addict and I can only agree with what you are writing about nuts and it´s health benefits. Many people consider nuts as a snack, but they have much more potential than we think. They protect our heart and brain, they regulate our blood pressure and if consumed at the correct quantities they help us losing weight.

    Thank you for very interesting article on nuts. Especially I enjoyed the section with fun facts about nuts. And, obviously, the list of health benefits is fantastic (for example, I did not know before that nuts help lower your body weight).

    I like nuts too but they are a bit expensive to buy and eat every day. However, when my family and I lived in Indonesia, we ate coconut a lot. We liked to drink young coconut water and after that eat that soft pulp… Mmmm… yammy… Miss it.

    Then, when we moved to Sulawesi,island, we discovered that one of their main export article was… cashiew. Lots of cashiew trees over there. Because of that the price was cheap and nuts everywhere. Very delicious.

  14. Thank you for this article. I have alway known that nuts were high in protein, but I did not realize they had so many other vitamins. Their positive effects on the heart, brain, and even the thyroid system are in impressive. I will be incorporating more nuts into my diet because of what I read.   15. I have to admit it, I don’t like nuts. I don’t like them in food, on salads, and pretty much in general. But, I do like peanuts every now and then, but they have to be seasoned with something to take away the totally nut taste. I do like cashews and pistachios as well. That is pretty much it. They do appear to have a lot of health benefits, so I guess I should start eating more of the ones I do like 🙂
