The Importance of Drinking Water

Water Drops

I heard these words many years ago when watching a television program and this saying is true,” water is the liquid of life”. Where would we be without it, water is our most precious resource and we must do all that we can to ensure that we make water a  part of our diet.

Water is used in so many things and in so many ways, can you imagine this world without it. All life form depends on water to be sustained, from the largest animals to tiniest microscopic organism. So what does water do to the body to keep it healthy?

Even before the discovery of electricity or the invention of light, generations before us survived well into their hundreds, water was one of the things that they depended on, it just goes to show that humans were living for a long time without modern-day comforts, but the use of water was always there for their survival. So again we can see the importance of water.

Water and our bodies

When we look at plants, for example, plants are made up of mostly water and vitamins, when we consume plants we are giving our bodies these superfoods that benefit us in so many ways, it is no doubt why our bodies get supercharge by taking a refreshing drink of water.

The body is said to be composed of 80% water

There are times when I would tell persons that nothing can quench our thirst or benefit our bodies like taking a good drink of water. Water helps our bodies to get rid of toxins, a build-up of these toxins can cause serious harm to our bodies. How does this all works?

Water and our kidneys

Our kidney’s job is to help our bodies get rid of toxins by filtering impurities. These impurities are stored in our bladder, when we drink water the kidneys use this water to help remove these toxins from our bladder through urination. But if we are not drinking sufficient water not only is our kidneys in danger of not functioning the way it should but our bodies will become sickly.

It is said that we can go for weeks without food, but the body can only go a week that’s seven days without water. So again we can see the importance of water. Just like how cars need fuel in order to run properly so do our bodies need water to function.

Have you ever had the unfortunate experience of running your car when it was low on fuel? I had this experience and it was not a good one, after a while, the steering wheel locked up on me and I had to pull to the side of the road, not only that, I was told by my mechanic that if I run my car too low on fuel it can actually damage the fuel pump.

If we treat our bodies the same way then our organs will lock up so to speak, in other words, our organs will begin to malfunction and when this happens this spells trouble.

  1. I learned my lesson on water. I recently went in for my yearly physical and was told I needed to see a heart specialist. Long story short, I wasn’t drinking enough water, causing my heart to pump slower, and make my blood thicker. It also caused me to have tingling in my arms at night. I started drinking a LOT more “flavored” water and went back in. Now I am all good 🙂 I told my dr how much I dislike water, and he said as long as I was drinking more liquid (non calorie), that I would be good. So yes, you are right about water!

    • Hello my good lady nice to see you and thanks for commenting, water is so important and without it life would not be. It is good to hear that you are in good shape, so make sure and keep making water a part of your diet. Thanks again, all the best to you.

  2. This is some solid information. I love the colours and the design of your page. Water is fantastic for you and you want to have a good balance. I know some people, like all things, like to over consume (water logging, blood pressure drops, electrolyte imbalance etc.) which can be just as dangerous as under consuming. Might be worth adding something like that in as well? Overall though, this is well done and put together well! Continued best wishes!

    • Hello Frozen it is so nice to meet you and thanks for that bit of information. When I started this article a part of what you said came to my mind because I read and article some time back on the dangerous of drinking to much water but some how that part slip from my memory but I will include that. Thanks again, all the best to you and have a good day.

  3. This article hit home. I agree with everything you’ve said in this post. I’m speaking from experience. The difference when my water intake is over 64 oz a day and when it’s not is astronomical. I feel more energized, digestion is much better, and I drop weight with very little effort. There is no better drink out there than pure water. It’s not even close!

    • Hello again my good friend, glad to hear from you, water it is so important and it is a must that we give our bodies the right amount of water to keep it in tip top shape. Thanks for commenting all the best to you and have a good day.

  4. Water is definitely the most precious resource on this planet and day-by-day humans are constantly figuring out new ways to apply water to cars, machinery, as well as the body. Its because of water that the body has a reliable source of fuel that helps to remove toxins instead of adding them to the body.

    • Hello Emcqueen your are so right about what you said and it if the truth could be told we simply cannot live without it. Thanks for commenting, all the best to you and have a good day.

  5. Hi Norman,

I couldn’t agree with you more when you said nothing can quench thirst or benefit our bodies like taking a good drink of water. I live in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where temperatures sometimes reach 40 degrees centigrade and above. You bet there’re times when I feel even a cold beer won’t do the trick…water is the ultimate drink. One thing that I noticed while working at the ER of a university hospital in our area was that we used to see a lot of cases of renal stones. The vast majority of these patients admitted they never drank up to 1 litre of water per day–most patients drank at most 2-3 glasses of water per day. This goes to say that many people still do not understand the importance of drinking water.

    • Hello Princila it is so good to meet you and thanks for sharing your stories with me. Water is a must and we simply cannot live without it. I believe that even though many persons may know this fact it is still good to push water and its benefits so that people can really see how important it is to drink water. Thanks again, all the best to you and have a good day.

  6. It is really great to see an online site that is showing the importance of drinking water and keeping our body’s hydrated. I know myself I drink a lot of water it is the only thing that quenches my thirst. I think it all stems back to how you are raised. My mother only had water and milk in our home as we were growing up, she didn’t have the soda’s and kool-aid as did other parents. That goes to show she knew then that water was the stable and that we needed it to stay healthy and keep our bodies functioning correctly. Kudos to all mom’s out there pushing the water.. I love your site! I am bookmarking it to make sure I can come back later and see what else really good information you are giving us to keep our body’s healthier. Very refreshing article! Debra

    • Hello Debra my dare lady it is so got to meet you, it seems to me like your mom is a very wise women in helping to keep the family healthy and fit, thanks for sharing and for those very kind words, all the best to you and have a good day.

  7. Thanks for the reminder about drinking water. Lots of great info in your article. Personally, I keep a large stainless steel bottle of water at my desk and on my nightstand. It’s a constant reminder to drink water. I’m not thrilled with plain water. So I add some True Lemon or True Lime to the water. Tasty…and no calories! In addition, I have a Brita water filter and always drink purified water. Thanks again!

    • Hello Diane it is so good to meet you and thanks for sharing, It seems to me like you are on the right track and I just want to encourage you to continue to keep on doing what you are doing because water is so beneficial to our bodies. All the best to you and have a good day.

  8. For me there is only one drink when you are thirsty and that is water. I knew water was good for you, but the list of benefits you have mentioned is impressive and only serves to highlight that we should all drink more. Now I know how water can benefit you in so many different ways, I am surprised you do not see more campaigns actively promoting water.

    • Hello Daniel so good to see you, water is so great and our bodies really do need it. Many illness can be trace back to persons not drinking enough water, so we must ensure that we are getting our daily amount. Hopefully one day God’s willing we will see campaigns where persons will begin to push more about the benefits of drinking water. Thanks for sharing, all the best to you.

  9. Hi I read your article “Your Health and Water”

Nice! The importance of water can never be mentioned enough. It was nice reading your article. Was clear, informative and to the point. It was a subtle reminder to never forget to drink water, and it being the most important part of our diet and lives.

I also like how you have listed a-z benefits of water. Makes reading and remembering the information easy as it’s broken down into points.

    • Hello Sashank it is my pleasure, I am glad that I could help. Thanks for those kind words, all the best to you and have a good day.

  10. Water is very important in our daily intake. Still I go to soda’s and I know they are not good at all, but they taste good. I drink more water from our well. It has been tested to be good. Although it is fine to drink I have wondered if the calcium from the well water would be of any harm. I have been drinking this water for 5 years and so far no harm form calcium. I know calcium is good for you in some amounts. What do you think about the minerals in water being of any harm to the body? Also, I did not know about benefit C. Water helps to relieve headache.

    • Hello Sherry it is so good to meet you, water is o great and the benefits are just so awesome there for we should get our daily amount, nothing like a good drink of water. As you said that you having been drinking the well water for five years and far no harm. Minerals in water should not be a problem. Hope this helps all the best to you.

  11. Hi there Norman,

Yet another highly informative and great article. Thanks for creating and sharing it with us. And 26 nice facts about water! Which is something that Davinci said is the Vehicle of nature! pretty true – nothing survives without water!

Looking forward to seeing more articles like this.

  12. I absolutely love your website. It has inspired me to work harder on my own. I have no idea how long you’ve been at it but it’s awesome. There is a lot of content on your site even if I had a week to view it I probably could not get through it all. I actually think that is a good thing because from what i have read your content is all relevant to me. After all I am the kind of person that would be interested in your site. Congratulations on a wonderful website.

    • Hello benjaminbooth1 it is so good to meet you and I must say you really made my day with your kind words. It is words like yours that keeps me going because it shows that my hard work is paying off, I still have a long way to go God’s willing and I also need to over haul my website some more. I am also wishing you the best of success with your website, all the best to you my friend and have a good day.

  13. Very interesting post. I know that water is very important to our health and I am usually not very good at drinking as much of it as I should. Having read your posting, I am much more inclined to do the things I should be doing.

Also, your listing of all the different things that water does for each of us was very impressive.

Thank you for the valuable information.

    • Hello Frank it is so good to meet you and water is so vital to our health and well being, so lets make sure and get our daily amount. Thanks a lot for commenting, all the best to you.

  14. Excellent topic in my opinion! People these days don realise just how important water really is and that we take it for granted everyday. I know a lot of people mostly kids that don’t even drink water and unfortunately that is not healthy considering all the different additives in soft drinks and juices

    • Hello Weston and happy Friday, water is important that we just can’t live without it. Hopefully more persons will see the need and the many benefits that water serves and begin to make sure they along with their kids get there daily amount. Thanks for commenting, all the best to you.
